Shane McMahon wins the WWE World Cup Tournament

In an interesting turn of events, Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon ended up becoming the winner of the WWE World Cup Tournament today at Crown Jewel.

The Miz (representing Smackdown Live) and Dolph Ziggler (representing RAW) had been set for the finals when Miz was forced out of the match due to a knee injury.

Shane, who was already at ringside along with Acting RAW General Manager Baron Corbin, decided to enter himself officially into the finals of the tournament. McMahon ended up hitting his Coast to Coast on Ziggler to secure the trophy.

Excerpt courtesy of Mike Tedesco’s live Crown Jewel recap:

The bell rings, and McMahon opens up with some wild punches on Ziggler. McMahon sends him into the ropes and hits a jumping back elbow. Baron Corbin grabs McMahon’s heels, so the referee ejects him from ringside. Ziggler connects with a Zig-Zag, but McMahon kicks out. Ziggler punches away at him. McMahon soon takes him down and puts him in the corner. McMahon hits Coast To Coast for the win.

Earlier during the day, a series of quarterfinal and semifinal matches took place.

In the quarterfinals, Rey Mysterio defeated Randy Orton, The Miz defeated Jeff Hardy, Seth Rollins defeated Bobby Lashley and Dolph Ziggler def. Kurt Angle.

In the semifinals, The Miz defeated Rey Mysterio and Dolph Ziggler defeated Seth Rollins.
